Family Finance and Frugal Living expert, Nikki Beal

Wife, mum to three, author of 'The Weird Life of Us' blog and personal finance coach, Nikki is passionate about helping others with practical advice and money management systems that actually work.

My mission is to teach others how to escape debt, build wealth and live an abundant life on any budget.

Nikki teaches from experience, knowing first hand the struggles of living paycheck to paycheck and being unable to escape the debt dependency cycle.

Self confessed spendaholics, Nikki and her husband Shannon struggled with mounting consumer debt for many years, until 2015 when they paid off $73,000 of debt in just 22 months, and all on a $77k pa family income.

Since then Nikki has gone on to show others how to

Escape the Grind with simple strategies that allow you to save more, pay down debt, simplify your finances and avoid the pitfalls that commonly derail attempts to become

debt free and wealthy.

"A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step"

— Chinese proverb

Being a part of Escaping the Grind course has proven to be a massive launching pad for getting myself out of debt.

I was raving to my partner yesterday that I have already got back the cost of this course and so much more (in less than 1 month).

I finally have a GREAT plan for my finances and it's working!

A course that pays for itself

or your money back

This program was built from love and experience, and because of that we are confident that this investment will pay for itself many times over.

However, you don't have to take our word for it.

If, on completion of the program, you have not made or saved at least what you paid for the program, we'll refund your money*.

We expect that you have completed all the modules in the program, and attempted to implement the strategies taught.

What do I need to complete the program?

The program is completely online, so all you need is internet access and a screen to view.

Our 1:1 coaching calls will be held via Zoom Video Conferencing which is free to download.

Other than that, the only other thing you really need is a genuine desire to change your financial situation.  This program (and any other program for that matter) will not  magically change your financial situation, but Escaping the Grind will give you actionable steps to follow, tips and advice that actually work, and support from someone who has been financially stuck and had to learn the hard way how to be financially successful.  These steps work, but you have to work them.

How long do the coaching calls last?

Each Coaching Calls is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour long, and will focus on different topics depending on your needs.

The coaching calls included as part your package purchase are to be scheduled & held within 3 months of purchase.

All coaching calls take place online, via a free, easy to set up, Video Conferencing app called Zoom.

How long will I have access to the course material?

The course material is designed to be access over an concurrent eight week period which is initiated upon purchased.  During this time you'll receive regular emails from us to help you stay on track and work through the material.

This initial eight week period is designed to jump start your new financial habits, but we also realize that change doesn't happen overnight, which is why everyone who joins has Lifetime access to the materials.

You will have access to all the course materials, including any updates and revisions, for the lifetime of the course (ie: as long as the course is available to the public).  You also will have Unlimited Lifetime Access to the Facebook group, including any archived videos (so long as Facebook remains open and free, and the group function remains operational).

So even after you have finished your initial 8 week cycle, you can participate over and over again, reinforcing your skills, learning new tips, and honing your budget.  You will however, only receive the course reminder emails ONCE (when you first sign up) unless you email us and request to go on the list again.

If at any point course is to be decommissioned, we will write to you via the email address you originally signed up with and you will be given at least 8 weeks notice that the course is shutting down.

I've already tried Dave Ramsey's program.  How is this different?

It's no secret we love Dave, and you'll find lots of references to Dave's teaching scattered throughout Escaping the Grind.  Dave's program is fantastic as a 'Big Picture' roadmap for a successful financial future.  But, we found that the 'Big Picture' roadmaps (like Dave's Total Money Makeover & Scott Pape's Barefoot Steps) lack the 'How To' of the day to day family finance stuff like: How much is too much to be spending on groceries?  What are the tricks to selling your old stuff online?  As a SAHM, how can I increase our disposable income without getting a second job?  How do I handle negative or unsupportive comments from friends and family? and so on.

So, while there are loads of great programs out there which provide a broad overview of 'How To Manage Your Money Better',

Escaping The Grind has been specifically designed to walk you step by step through the process: from creating a budget that actually works for your family, to maintaining your momentum for the long haul, we got the 'How To' covered.

I'm already following Scott Pape's Barefoot Steps.

How will this course help me?

Arh, Scott - our very own Aussie Dave.  He likes buckets over budgets, and a good dose of pop culture references in everything he writes, but his 'Big Picture' roadmap for a successful financial future looks ever so similar to Dave Ramsey's plan that one could be forgiven for thinking that he just did a Copy & Paste job.  But the reality is that they are so similar because it is the most efficient path the wealth; pay off debt, save an emergency fund, pay off your house early, invest, invest, invest, retire obscenely wealthy.

But how can you even imagine retiring (let alone obscenely wealthy!) when you constantly have too much month left at the end of the money? (yes, you read that right)  Escaping the Grind gives you the tools to break free from the paycheck to paycheck cycle; to combat the leaks in your finances, to curb the behaviours that are keeping you broke, to stop the self sabotaging, and gives you actionable strategies to actually stick with the 'Big Picture' Plan.

I don't live in Australia.  Can I still join the course?

Absolutely.  Escaping the Grind has been designed to help people gain control over their finances regardless of their background.  While many of the examples in the program will have an Australian basis, the fundamental principles are designed to translate across a variety of different budgets, and incomes, and lifestyles.  We've had folks join us from all over the world, including the US, the UK, Canada, and New Zealand, who have used the tips in Escaping the Grind to stop the paycheck to paycheck cycle and gain control over their money.

What if I need help?  Is there any one I can talk to?

YES!  We are here for you!  During the first 8 weeks of Escaping the Grind, you will receive regular emails from us to help you stay on track and work through the program.  You are welcome to reply to any of these emails at any time if you need help with the course.

If you are having technical difficulties with the material, please email us at with the subject line 'ETG Tech Support' and we will respond as soon as possible.

And don't forget to join our private Facebook group for members of Escaping the Grind.  This is THE BEST place to find extra tips and support as you work through the course material.  You can even join Nikki for a Live Chat each week to talk about the course and ask any specific questions you might have.

Looking for a more personalized approach?  Nikki offers a limited number of 1:1 coaching sessions each quarter.  To find out more about 1:1 coaching, please visit our Coaching page.

What is your refund policy?

This program was build from love and experience, and because of that we are confident that this investment will pay for itself many times over.  But, you don't have to take our word for it.  If, on completion of the program, you have not made or saved at least what you paid for the program, we'll refund your money.  Of course, we expect that you have completed all the modules in the program, and attempted to implement the strategies taught.

You will be asked to provide honest information about your income, your debts and other liabilities, and your budget before your coaching calls.  Do not be shy or feel ashamed.  We won’t be rehashing mistakes or dwelling on what went wrong in past.  My focus on the future, but I need to understanding your current financial situation to offer you the best advice possible.

Refunds will not be issued for unsuccessful coaching programs built in incorrect or incomplete information provided by the client.

For full Terms and Conditions please visit our Refunds page.

Can I share the program with my family and friends?

We believe that personal fiances should be a combined affair if you are in a committed relationship.  We encourage you to speak openly and honestly with your spouse about budgeting, finances, your dreams and your goals, and what better way to start the conversation than by going on this journey together.

Therefore, you are welcome to attend the coaching calls with your spouse or partner if you wish, and work through the course material together.   We are, however, unable to provide your spouse or partner with their own log in details.

Sharing the course material with anyone else is strictly prohibited, and we reserve the right to revoke access to anyone found to be sharing their login details, downloading and sharing course material, and /or alike.

If you find Escaping the Grind helpful (which we hope you do!) and would like to share these tips with your friends and extended family, then we would love for you to tell them how much you love ETC, and encourage them to sign up for their own program.

You can even get them a discount with our Refer a Friend program, and you'll receive a Thank You bonus!  (Please email us at for more information).

Hey look at that!
